In the words of evangelist D.L Moody, "The world has yet to see what God can do with a man fully consecrated to him." Throughout history, we have witnessed the transformative power of individuals who choose to be set apart for God's purposes. From biblical figures like Joshua, Esther, and Daniel, to more recent examples, the impact of consecrated hearts cannot be denied.
One often overlooked figure from the Old Testament is Josiah. Born into a time when Israel was divided, Josiah became the king of Judah at the tender age of 8. The land was steeped in idolatry, yet Josiah chose a different path and sought after the God of his father David.
What makes Josiah's choice even more remarkable is that his earthly father, Amon, and his grandfather Manasseh, were renowned for their wickedness. Instead of being weighed down by his familial lineage, Josiah chose to look to David as his spiritual father, one who sought God wholeheartedly.
At the age of 20, Josiah embarked on a mission to rid the land of idols. His determination to restore the honor and glory of God among the people is evident in his relentless pursuit of cleansing. He removed anything that had overshadowed the place of God in the hearts of the people. His actions were driven by a heart moved by love and a desire to please and glorify his Creator.
During the restoration of God's temple, Josiah's men stumbled upon the book of the Law – God's instruction through Moses. When the words were read in Josiah's presence, he was deeply moved, tearing his clothes and weeping. This encounter with God's truth prompted him to renew the covenant and propelled his mission of nationwide repentance.
In a time when many have turned away from God, Josiah's example speaks powerfully to our present circumstances. We live in an age where the pursuit of holiness has been compromised, but God is still seeking consecrated hearts. He yearns for leaders who, like Josiah, seek Him with all their heart, soul, and strength.
As vessels in God's house, we have the opportunity to be instruments for special and significant purposes. The condition for this privilege is consecration. We must choose the path of wholehearted surrender; fleeing from evil desires and pursuing righteousness, faith, love, and peace. This journey is not meant to be trekked alone; it is meant to be shared with a community of believers with clean hands and pure hearts.
In this era, marked by the worship of false gods and the enthronement of worldly desires, God is calling forth a generation in wholehearted pursuit of Jesus. Just as He did with Josiah, God desires to strengthen and use those who are fully committed to Him; the Bible conveys that His eyes are actively searching for such a people. The question that remains is how will we respond? Will we choose to consecrate ourselves, surrendering our lives as vessels for His plans and purposes? Let us take inspiration from the faith and courage of Josiah and embark on a journey of consecration, knowing that God is with us every step of the way.
