Change is an inevitable part of life, and in today's world, it is happening at an unprecedented rate. As leaders, it becomes crucial to adapt and respond effectively to these changes while upholding the unwavering truth of God’s Word. Thus, exploring the transformations that have taken place over the past decade and discussing strategies for leaders to stay relevant when leading the next generation to Jesus in the coming years is of vital importance.

The Future We Will Lead In

Considering the escalating pace of change, it is fair to expect more significant advancements in the next seven years than what we've witnessed in the last decade concerning Christians and the youth. As leaders, it is crucial to ponder upon the question of relevance. Irrelevance sets in when the rate of external change outpaces the internal rate of change within an organization or individual.

The Challenge of Staying Relevant

Throughout history, generations have become lost when one generation fails to pass on crucial knowledge and values to the next. Drawing inspiration from the book of Judges, which depicts the consequences of failing to pass on knowledge and experiences, we must strive to reach and stay relevant.

Judges 2:10 NKJV

“When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the LORD nor the work which He had done for Israel.”

As Christian leaders, it’s essential to understand that change does not imply compromising on God’s absolute truth. Leaders can utilize the following strategies for staying relevant within their team and in the next generation as they navigate the ever-evolving territory in the world:

1. Develop a Lab Mentality:

Embracing a lab mentality entails continuously experimenting with new ideas and approaches. Failure should not be feared; instead, it should be seen as an opportunity for growth. Fail quickly, learn from mistakes, and keep moving forward. Remember, your mission is more important than any specific method.

2. Clarity over Certainty:

In Christ, there is no room for confusion or cloudy vision, and when faced with an increasingly uncertain world, leaders must prioritize Christ-like clarity. The faster things change, the more valuable clarity becomes. Take a definitive direction, create clarity around it, and remain adaptable. Just like a bicycle cannot be steered when stationary, progress requires movement.

3. Major on the Majors:

When everything seems to be in constant motion, find a fixed point to anchor yourself. As the world continues to evolve, it becomes increasingly important to identify what remains constant and true. Focus on the Godly, absolute truth over those who you lead  and build your leadership upon these unchanging foundations Remember, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). While our methods may change, our message and our mission remain the same.
